Children of Blood and Bone
Children of Blood and Bone is a mythological fantasy novel by Tomi Adeyemi. The story is based on an alternate precolonial Nigeria called Orisha. Where once ten clans of maji empowered by the Orisha gods once wielded their supernatural abilities over nature, there is now an oppressive monarchy that has killed the active maji and will stop at nothing to kill magic for good. The story follows a young maji, Zelie, who with the help of her brother and a rebel princess, embark on a quest to bring magic back.
CoBaB is one of my favorite books of all time. The world Adeyemi has created is a beautiful land with complex characters that unfortunately aren’t represented much in fantasy fiction literature and films. When I found out it got picked up to become a film franchise, I was excited to imagine some designs of my own that could bring these fantastical characters to life!
